Dear twitter, sick bird

I thought is was just my tweetdeck however, I think that it’s just twitter in general. Hey, twitter! WTF is wrong with you? I would love to think that it’s just my computer but I am only having trouble with you! I really want to be able to talk to my friends all over the country spontaneously but this is really pissing me off. Please get it together and either get back to me on why this is happening or just fix it!

Truly yours (when this is fixed),

Cincinnati Ballet: Ballet & Beer, New Works

In Where Should This Go? on 14 thUTCp30UTC09bUTCFri, 11 Sep 2009 12:32:32 +0000 2009 at 12:32 pm

Last week, I went to my first Beer & Ballet night at the Cincinnati Ballet. Ballet, Beer and Me

Each week the Cincinnati Ballet will hold a special more intimate opportunity to see a glimpse into the upcoming production. Starting tonight last night, Thursday, September 10th, New Works is a production of local choreographers and musicians debuting their current work here. Also a special return by Italian choreographer Luca Veggetti. This program runs through September 20th.

I wasn’t sure what to expect and surprised in more than one way. Reservations are recommended but not required. Considering that the event was sold out, I highly suggest making a reservation. Your name will be on a list as you come into the building where you are given a ticket to go up stairs and watch a preview of the upcoming show. Get there early for a good seat although I didn’t see anywhere that would be a problem.

After the “rough draft” of what you will be viewing, you have the option of sticking around to watch the instructor critique each move. While you and I see possible perfection, this particular audience only see what should be. It’s an amazing creative process and the dancers seem only eager to get it right.

After the performance, catered appetizers along with beer, wine, soda and bottled water are available complimentary to enjoy while mingling with other ballet friends. Once the dancers have finished and changed, they join the gathering for a chance to meet everyone. I had the opportunity to talk to Heather, one of the instructors and a few of the dancers. Not only talented on the stage I thought that the dancers were kind and professional, not at all pretentious. Another surprise was to see a Mom with her baby and other small children. Next month, I will surely bring my own son.

The entire evening was new for me. I have been to the ballet before, I have loved the ballet for years. And, thanks to movies like Center Stage and books from such as the American Ballet Theatre in NYC, I know a bit more about the ballet that some. What one sees in front of their own eyes though cannot compare with such things. When you watch the dancers out of formal costume in this venue, you can physically see the strength, the power and the feeling behind each move. Behind each note. Knowing the steps is not enough. Feeling each beat of the music, each pause of every frame makes a great dancer and a perfect ballet.

Cincinnati Women Bloggers Meeting: Cincinnati Ballet

In Where Should This Go? on 14 rdUTCp31UTC08bUTCSun, 23 Aug 2009 02:25:06 +0000 2009 at 2:25 am

Today’s Cincinnati Women Blogger meeting was held at the Cincinnati Ballet.

First of all, let me thank Terry Honebrink, Group Relations Coordinator for the Cincinnati Ballet for hosting the meeting and allowing us the opportunity to tour the building. ballet

After a great meeting where we were able to discuss the pro’s and con’s of a recently past blogging conference (BlogHer 2009) held this year in Chicago, Illinois, the attention was passed on to Mrs. Honebrink. Her enthusiasm, rightfully so, for the ballet and especially the Cincinnati Ballet, is inspiring. Terry also has a daughter that dances for the company and understands the dedication and passion that is required of this group of talented individuals.

Did you kn ow that Cincinnati is one of only 8 states in the entire country that has their own ballet company, opera and symphony. The ballet was founded in 1958 by Nancy Bauer, Virginia Garrett and Myrl Laurence and was originally called the Cincinnati Civic Ballet.

Please read more about the Cincinnati Ballet and check into the amazing schedule that they have for the upcoming season with opening day on September 10th!

Goodwill Finds 9/8/2008

In Where Should This Go? on 14 thUTCp31UTC08bUTCSun, 09 Aug 2009 01:32:46 +0000 2009 at 1:32 am

I love Goodwill, especially on a Saturday when things are 50% off. coffee cupsToday, I found some small coffee cups that are perfect. A little larger than an espresso cup (since my machine is not working) but smaller than a full size coffee cup. I had found 8 of them in light blue when I found a creamer cup in a pumpkin color. Then, I found two slightly larger pumpkin colored cups that are the same material, weight and inside color that matched the creamer cup. Yippy! I purchased four of the blue ones, the two orange ones and the creamer cup for the bargain price of $2.50!

I also found a perfect modern brushed stainless lamp for my room that has a dimmer built right in the on/off knob also for the bargain price of $2.50. Gotta love the half off days.

Oh yeah, and the brand new looking pair of uniform school shorts for my son for .99! These run around $10 at the “regular” store. All for a couple of months of wear. That’s a savings of $9 on something that won’t even fit next year.

Am I Ready For Summer?

Over 11 years in Ohio and I think that I am officially  a snow bird! What happened? I grew up in Florida and yet I cannot handle it when it gets too hot. It’s not as bad when you can wear whatever you need to and stay in the shade. I however, work in lined black wool. I just picked up the skirt that I can wear with a white shirt. Not so bad, right. And yet, I am still hot! I remember the day when I thought I was going to die because I was freezing. Oh, how things change.
Is there a cream I can use? A pill to take? OK, fine. Water, Water, Water. This is fine for the inside, but how am I supposed to stay professional at work while sweating, standing at the aircraft door wishing everyone a great flight? Or trying to act oh so excited about playing ball outside with a child that is cold when it’s 74 degrees. I’m melting already and it’s only June.
Please help with your suggestions for fighting the heat when your clad in wool and stockings or running a game of chase. The Thinker

Father's Day 2009

In Where Should This Go? on 14 thUTCp30UTC06bUTCSun, 14 Jun 2009 22:30:57 +0000 2009 at 10:30 pm

Have you gotten your Dad (or your husband) anything for Father’s Day? My Father has passed away so I will celebrate him by spending time with my husband and our children. When we get home from Michigan, our youngest son and I will make a card and craft when we get home and I am looking for something perfect. This is a hard decision because the things I would like to get him are too expensive right now.

Father’s day is about celebrating your Dad’s and not spending a lot, right? Save money and celebrate your dad and children’s father on the good stuff page!

USA Today Insulting Stories

In Where Should This Go? on 14 thUTCp30UTC06bUTCMon, 08 Jun 2009 20:01:33 +0000 2009 at 8:01 pm

Hello World.

Ok, so I realize that journalists need juicy stories to sell papers, however do they have to be so blatantly mis-leading? I am a flight attendant  for a regional airline. I am not a pilot but I am the one that deals with the passengers so I am the one on the front line when they walk into the aircraft scared because “It’s such a small plane.”  As if a larger one is going to save them in a crash. Ooh, sorry. Did I just say that ‘out loud’?

Comparing all regional airlines is like comparing apples and oranges. Some smaller airlines are stepping stones for the major airlines since you cannot simply start with the larger aircraft unless you have been in the military for many years. Pilots need 1000 flight hours as a left seat captain in order to be even considered by airlines such as Delta. So, anybody pilot must first learn how to fly the aircraft in an academy such as Flight Safety  International. This includes training other pilots at a certain point. Once you are certified and have the needed hours, you can look for a job with a smaller airline. After years of living on a very low paycheck doing what you must love to do, you can then attempt again to find a major airline that is hiring.

Then, there are airlines like Comair and American Eagle that are made up of very senior pilots. This means that they have chosen to fly smaller jets for a living and have no interest in “moving up” as some like to call it. The entire group of pilots at the most senior regional airlines have been there for over 25 years. Just because a pilot choses to stay with a smaller airline, doesn’t mean that he/she is any less qualified.

The Flying Public Beware

In Where Should This Go? on 14 thUTCp31UTC05bUTCTue, 26 May 2009 16:14:47 +0000 2009 at 4:14 pm
I was sitting in Recurrent Ground for the flight attendant class listening to the other flight attendants talking and cackling around me. Come to find out as I am reminded each and every year I am not the only one. I hear stories about the passengers that think that just because their bag fit on the last flight, it is going to fit on this one. Just because the person’s bag before them didn’t fit, there’s will.
Personally, I do not even want to bother trying to get my bag to fit. You may call it lazy or you may call it experienced. Either way, I know that I do not want to drag my bags up the stairs or down the aisle or fight to get them back off after the flight. The airline I work for has this amazing benefit called “pink-tagging”. It’s like using the valet service for your car except it’s for your bag and you don’t even have to tip.

Another thing that we all seem to have the pleasure of dealing with is alcohol. I have passengers that feels it’s life or death to have a drink on a half an hour flight. They also seem to think that either I am rich or the company gives us change before each flight. I remember one passenger handed me a $100 bill for his drink.

A $5 drink!

Was he crazy? I didn’t have a hundred dollars to my name, no less change. Those days we were able to get away with comping a drink if the passenger did not have a the correct change. No longer an option ladies and gentlemen. Along with the price increase to $7 a drink, we expect you to be the wise traveler that you need t be to survive these days.

Remember that if you are smart, you can avoid all of the extra charges. Don’t bring too much stuff or it could cost you big time to check that bag! Don’t bring large bottles of anything liquid or gel that TSA will simply relieve you of and promptly throw away. I was just traveling to my Mom’s for pleasure and had a few things taken away. I haven’t travelled out of uniform in so long that even I forgot. 3oz each and in a separate zip-lock bag. Bring dry snacks so tha you do not have to spend a fortune in the airport or a plane ride starving because if there is something other than peanuts and cookies, there will be a charge.

This all sounds terrible however, did you all notice GM going bankrupt? Too many expenses. We took a huge cut in pay and work more for usually minimum wage (by the time you figure in all of it) and the passengers are going to have to pay for all of the luxuries that used to be free. I will personally make sure that if you are on my plane, you will get there safely and with the biggest smile because I am happy to see you!
